  1. go to dtvanswers.com for a government coupon program to get a converter box so your regular tv will pick up the digital channels. This will not happen until Feb.2009.  If your on cable or satellite dont worry about it

  2. The law is, on February 17, 2009, all full power TV stations must turn off their analog transmitters and be digital only.  This only affects Over The Air TV that you would get with an antenna.  This is a US regulation, however Australia, Canada, Mexico and the UK are making similar transitions (I don't know the time tables for those countries, though).

If you subscribe to satellite or cable, you should still have TV next February.

No, you don't have to buy a new TV.  You can add an inexpensive converter box to your existing analog TV to receive over the air digital signals.  The US government is providing $40 coupons to help with the cost.  You can apply for one at http://www.dtv2009.gov .  If you have a Digital TV, you are all set, even if it is not HD.

There is a difference between digital TV (DTV) and High Definition (HD).  HD is indeed digital, but it also is wide screen and has a higher resolution.  There is also Standard Definition (SD) that is also digital but is basically the same analog TV you have now that's been converted to digital.  We will be living with SD content for quite a while until more HD programming is produced.

    I hope this helps.

Get th DTVPAL is 39.99 with coupons by the way The US government is providing $40 coupons to help with the cost. You can apply for one at http://www.dtv2009.gov

the law is that on feb 17 2009 all tv stations need to change to broadcast in digital

  4. The law states that all broadcasters have to broadcast in digital by Feb. 17 2009. This means that in order to continue watching over-the-air broadcast TV, you will need a TV with a digital tuner. If your TV does not have this HD tuner, you can buy a converter box that will allow you to continue watching broadcast TV, and the government will send you a voucher for $40 towards the purchase of a converter box. Go to dtv2009.gov for more info and to apply for a voucher.
