since my parents wont buy me a camera, i decided to just get one myself. can anyone help me find like a camera that isnt super expensive and doesnt totally suck? thanx

D200 is a great camera however it isn't inexpensive by a long shot.  I would suggest going to www.pbase.com/cameras and looking through the pictures taken by specific cameras to see the quality of the photos each camera takes.  You can look at prices of cameras on amazon.com or even costco.com.  I like purchasing the camera from either one of those websites due to the return policy. Costco will give you a 90 day return policy and don't need a reason. Amazon is pretty good at taking things back if you don't like them, at least that has been my experience.

Nikon D200 is a nice choice.

The Cannon SD750 (black) seems to be one of the best cameras for the money. Also, consider a similar camera with an optical view finder. This really helps in bright sun.

There are lots of very inexpensive cameras at Walmart.  Check Best Buy where you can get some really smart advice and good camera prices.
