Digital camera troubles!?

Question

My sister just had her very first baby.

I got to be in the room with her when she had him.

My mom didnt. And she was okay with it because I got a lot of it on my

camera. I got lots of pictures and videos of him coming out, his first cry,

his daddy cutting the cord, my sister holding him for the first time. And

pictures of him with his great great grandma who may never see him again.

I was going through the camera a few days later after having over 200

pictures and videos of the new babys first few days of life and I tried to

delete a super blury one and accidentally formated the whole camera

deleting everything on it. I feel so bad. I cant stop crying. Everyone told

me they werent mad, but then they all left the room and came back in tears.

I know they are all mad and they all hate me for it. Expecially my sister.

So basically where I was gettin at is.. Is there anyway to recover the pictures?

If you truly did reformat the card, then there is little (actually, about nothing) you can do to get the data back. However, most cameras don't truly reformat cards. When a card/hard drisk/memory device is truly reformatted, the entire device is wiped, bit by tiny bit. And then the file system is built back from the ground up. However, this can take a rather long time on large capacity memory devices. so, most manufactures implement a kind of 'quick format' alternative. Basically, all that happens is that the portion of the memory that tells the reader where all of the data is is erased, but the rest of the data is left intact. so, essentialy, the card THINKS it is blank,and new data would just be written over the old data. However, it isnt blank, and with some specialized software, you can get the data back (again, assuming your camera manufacturer has implemented a quick format option as opposed to truly formatting the card). The one I've used before that works rather well is called card recovery (cardrecovery.com). Its a piece of software meant specifically for camera cards. However, I've also used a program called Undelete plus (do a google search, I dont have the address) on old computer hard drives and it recovers an unbelievable amount of data. you may try that.
