Digital converter questions?

Should I purchase the digital converter box now? I have an old tv and no cable. I have read that people are receiving extra channels (not cable channels) with converter. Is this true? Is the converter something I can use now or do I have to wait for the change from analog to digital in Feb. 2009. What brand converter should I purchase.

If there are TV stations in your area which are already broadcasting in the new digital signal then by all means get the box now. Since you will need one after February 17th 2009. If you live in the US then you can go to https://www.dtv2009.gov/

And apply for a coupon worth $50 off the purchase price of the box. I live in Utah & found that there are a couple channels that I can get with the digital box that I can not get without, but that depends on your area.

Yes if your coupon from the government expires soon.  And yes if you want to have time to adjust your antenna before it is too late to make an adjustment and know if you are picking up the same programs.

What they really get is extra programs on the digital channels.  Most people would call this extra channels but in essence for the non-engineer lets just say yes.

Now if your local stations have their digital signals on air.  Many or most do.  Some do not in some markets.  Check your availability here.
