Question:

Digital convertor to VCR question?

I have a TV (of course), a VCR, and a digital convertor. When installing the convertor I routed the antenna as such antenna>convertor in; convertor out>VCR antenna in; VCR antenna out> TV. When I try to record a TV show from the TV it turns out very badly, when I try to record using the VCR tuner it doesn't work at all.

What am I doing wrong?

  1. Your config pretty much precludes you from using your VCR tuner except to lock it on Channel 3 and setting your converter to the desired channel.

Until Feb 2009, you could use the composite video out from your converter to either the TV or VCR, and split your antenna to your converter and VCR. You'll then get the freedom to record analog onto your VCR, while switching to Video 1 on either your TV or VCR to watch digital. After Feb 2009, in order to watch TV and record at the same time, you'll need converters dedicated to the TV and VCR.
