Question:

Digitally made wedding album?

HAs anyone had their wedding album digitally made? I had never heard of this before until I went to a photographer and he shows us. Basically, instead of having the pictures mounted in the pages of the album, each page is created by someone at the photographer's office using a program like photoshop (where they can take a picture, mute down the colors and use it as a background and put other pictures on top of it). They also said that we get more pictures for our $$ as they chan put as many pics on each page & only charge by the page, where-as the mounted way charges by the picture)

So, has anyone else had this type of album? We fell in love with it when we saw it but are wondering how they withstand the test of time?

Also, I tried to google it (but came up empty) but does anyone else know any photographers in MA that do this? (the one we were going to go through charges a high hourly rate for the photographer)

  1. Almost all photographers do digital books now. Only one that I have interviewed has mentioned doing the "classic print style" book and it is an option in addition to the digital.

As for photographers in MA, check The Knot, they have a Local Vendors section where they list all the people in your area who vend a chosen item and it has price guidelines and stuff.

    Good luck!

  2. That's the kind of album we're getting.  The first draft from our photographer is lovely and far better than any of my friends who have the standard monster photo-album with the individual pictures mounted.  Very artistic and classy.

I think it'll stand the test of time much better than regular photographs.  Go pull out a 20 year old book and tell me if any color pictures in it look faded?  Compare those with pictures from your childhood.

We're looking forward to our "coffee table" book style album.

  3. i made one myself through mypublisher.com

    personally i love it

  4. YES, I'll even let you see mine!

Here is the web link: http://bmphotodesign.com/albums/Louise_J...

Then it's mounted to a book- which has thick pages almost like a child's reading book.  My photographer said they hold up- they are on acid free paper.  I am sure in 100 years- they may fade but I think you'll be OK for a very long time.  Also it's how you store things!!

It's called a flush mount album.

I think we paid around $2,300 when all was said and done.

And that include extra hours, the book, the CD with all pictures and I get 3 picture with colors altered.

This is there website so you can see the pricing.

I personally don't like the hour deal- I looked for packages that included so many hours in them.

Also check out the knot.com- that's how I found them.  I posted in my local area and ask people if they knew a photographer that was GOOD and a good price- and I got a lot of suggestions to use them!

My publisher is OK- the pages are thin like normal book pages and your lay outs are very limited and no much artist flair to them.  I did my honeymoon pictures with it.

  5. A lot of photographers are offering this choice now adays.  I'm sure the quality will depend on the photographer.

To save money, I suggest you hire a photographer who uses a professional digital camera, and will give you the pictures on a CD or DVD. Then you can use the pics to make your own photobook.

My friend, who is a travel enthusiast, loves http://www.picaboo.com - they make great photobooks and the picture quality is very good.  He has used them for his travels, not his wedding, but they do have options for leather bound wedding albums & many layouts.

Of course, you should keep your pics backed up on multiple CDs to stand the test of time as well.

    Hope that helps!

  6. I am going to make my own album after my wedding so I can choose the pictures that I want to keep.  I will be using http://www.mypublisher.com
