Digitech RP250 Recording Problem...

I have a Digitech RP250 and I'm loving it. But I encountered a problem when I was recording. Here is what's going on:

This is my set up. I have my guitar hooked up to the RP250, which the USB chord connected to the laptop. My headphones is also plugged in because I can't hear anything through my headphone jack on my laptop. I recorded a blues song with a chord progression and a drum beat into my recording program (MAGIX Music Maker Basic). When I play it, the quality is pretty good. When I decide to record a solo over it while listening to the playback, all I hear is a screech sound. When I stopped recording, I listened to my progression and my solo together and everything sounds fine, yet of course, the solo is messed up because I can't even hear the chords through that awful screech.

Why does this happen? Is the laptop sending too much info into the RP250, which causes the screech to happen? I tried to find a way to listen to it through my laptop with my headphones while having the USB connection between my laptop and RP250, but my computer is being stupid and sending all output audio into my RP250... I don't know how to direct it through the speakers and not to my RP250.

I need serious help here. Basically, I can't playback what I recorded previously and record something over it at the same time, because of that screech.

HELP!!!! Tell me what's going on and if there's a solution!

  1. You might want to try using Audacity instead. Many of the RP250 users use that instead. You can record as many tracks as you want and hear the previous tracks while recording the new one.

    Hope this helps.
