Digvijay Singh confident to outshine his opponents at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open
Indian Digvijay Singh is set to record the second Asian Tour victory of the season, when he tees off at this week’s Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open.
Earlier this year, Singh bagged the first ever Asian Tour title of his career, when he outshined his rivals at the Panasonic Open India.
It was the biggest moment of his career, as the victory came after playing on the tour for 12 years.
He now plans to record a unique double, as Panasonic is once again sponsoring the US $1.9 million, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Japan Golf Tour.
Despite expecting a huge challenge from some of the big names on the Tour, Singh is confident to leave a strong impression at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club.
Right after winning the Panasonic Open India in April, Singh decided to bring some changes in his swing technique.
For that purpose, he spent a great deal of time on the range in mid-season and now hopes to apply all the newly learned techniques in Japan.
According to him, he faced plenty of challenges due to changes in his game. However, he wanted to give himself some time in order to get used to the new style.
Since he recorded a victory in India, he has only managed to make one cut in seven starts.
“I’m trying to incorporate a few changes into my swing. I’ve been a bit confused recently but I’m still going ahead with the new changes,” said Digvijay.
“Winning my first title outside of India would be awesome. That’ll be the icing on the cake and to win in Japan would be absolutely fantastic. Age is definitely not a factor anymore. There has been enough players who have won in their 40s and I know age
is not a barrier to winning,” he added.
He is among the three Indian players who have recorded victories this season. Anirban Lahiri won the SAIL-SBI Open and Gaganjeet Bhullar outshined his opponents last week at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship.
Jeev Milkha Singh is another Indian who has tasted success this year. However, he did that on the European Tour by winning the Scottish Open in July.
