Diju V, Jwala Gutta face defeat in quarter-finals of Singapore Open 2012 – Badminton News
India’s prime Mixed Doubles team Diju V-Jwala Gutta could not raise country’s flag in quarter-finals of Li Ning Singapore Open and surrendered against Chen Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing on June 22, 2012.
However, they exhibited decent fighting skills and gave tough time in 45-minute tussle before losing with 21-13, 14-21 and 17-21.
Though, the Taipei couple suffered huge blow in first set but they proved their class in last two sets and ensured their presence in semi-finals of the Super Series tournament.
World Number five pair is now scheduled to meet Malaysian duo Peng Soon Chan-Liu Ying Goh and win will take them into title match.
Earlier, they had a slow start against Diju V-Jwala Gutta in round of eight and lost opening game of the match.
The Indians built pressure by clinching four consecutive points straight away in the beginning and manipulated this situation to pocket best out of this set. They gained seven-point advantage by ending first half with a notable total of 11-7.
After the interval, they did not lose focus and pushed their superior competitors in all areas of the court. They raised their lead to nine by reaching a 17-8 position.
This huge gap was never covered by the opposing team and Diju V-Jwala Gutta bagged this segment with significant margin of 21-13.
However, they could not go with same flow in following set and frittered away their gruelling effort of opening game.
The twosome of Hung Ling and Wen Hsing forged a fruitful chemistry to level match score. They established their grip from very first stroke and maintained this supremacy until last shot was played.
Meanwhile, World Number 14 Indian couple tried to match their challenger’s skills until 6-6 but they could not proceed steadily and stayed far behind.
The Taipei campaigners finished first half with a slight edge in 11-9 total. They made difference with couple of power packed rallies in later part and wrapped this segment with decisive figure of 21-14.
Though, Mixed Doubles partners Diju V and Jwala Gutta put decent resistance in the decider but they could not avoid a 17-21 defeat which also ended their race in 2012 Singapore Open.
