Dilawar Mani resigns as chief of Emirates Cricket Board – Cricket News Update
Dilawar Mani, current chief executive of the Emirates Cricket Board, has announced his intent to quit his post. Mani’s three-year tenure as chief of the board has come to an end, and he has revealed that he will not be working towards a new term in office.
“Constitutionally, the term for the CEO is three years and that was up, so I have asked not to be nominated again," Mani said in a conversation with
ESPNcricinfo. He went on to add that he wished to set a precedent to make a prompt exit once an official had served his/her term, in order to let others contribute.
Explaining that the board and Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan were aware of his decision, Mani claimed that he intended to stay on as long as it took to find a successor.
“I am sure I am leaving the ECB in the best shape and have given the team the best momentum. The process is open to find my successor and once it is done I will move out after handing over the charge,” he said, going on to add that while he was happy with
the contributions he had made while being a part of the ECB over the last six years, he felt it was time to move on.
In addition to working on the UAE team’s performances, the Emirates board also shares a close relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board, with Mani having played a key role in the establishing the UAE as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s preferred venue for hosting international
matches.
The Men in Green have been unable to host teams on home soil since a terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan team in 2009, after which the security situation in the country has been deemed too unsafe to allow foreign teams to tour.
However, the UAE has served as their venue of choice for hosting teams, with the most recent “home” series having been played earlier this year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. Their most recent home series, due to be played against Australia in late August/early September
this year, is also likely to be held in the UAE.
In addition to announcing his retirement, Mani added that he had had a meeting with a PCB official, and assured them that “everything will move on as it is with no impact on the on-going negotiation” regarding the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 tour.
