Diletta Lugano clinches Women’s 50m backstroke gold: Day seven – FINA World Masters Championships
Diletta Lugano of Italy clinched gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke in the age group of 25-29 on day seven of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy on Saturday,
June 16.
The Italian swimmer displayed her phenomenal efforts in the single lap backstroke discipline and spoiled the party of her competitors by seizing gold medal of the discipline.
With her fascinating efforts, Lugano remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and reached the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 32.22 seconds.
With her epic pace, she enjoyed an advantage of 0.47 seconds over Erica Pakkala of Finland, who made her way to the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 32.69 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Federica Giuliacci of Italy, who stayed nearly half body length apart and surfaced on the finishing wall as third position holder by clocking an effort of 33.17 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Crialese Claudia of Italy, who remained 0.45 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the medal rostrum with an effort of 33.62 seconds.
Similarly, Claudia remained 0.09 seconds faster from Linh Carpenter of Hong Kong, who proved her eligibility for fifth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 33.71 seconds.
Carpenter was followed by Heike Nafe of Germany, who stayed 0.16 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as sixth best finish.
Subsequently, Nafe was trailed by her teammate, Ines Constanze Scholl, who secured seventh best spot of the event by producing a time of 33.95 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Silvia Franchino of Italy, who stayed 0.07 seconds behind and submitted a time of 34.02 seconds.
Similarly, Franchino was chased by Beatriz Hasckel of Brazil, who ended her swim in ninth place by touching the wall with an effort of 34.10 seconds.
Furthermore, Lugano was overjoyed with her scintillating form in the backstroke discipline while the position holders received awards and accolades at the medal distribution ceremony after the session.
