Dilip Vengsarkar and company ready for upcoming MCA elections – Cricket News Update
One of the strongest contenders for the post of Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) president, Former Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dilip-Balwant-Vengsarkar-c54093, has announced the list of his candidates for the upcoming elections for different posts in the association.
The polls are scheduled to be held on July 15, 2011 and the crucial voting will be for the positions of MCA President, Secretary and Vice-President.
Established in 1930, the MCA is responsible to govern cricket activities in Mumbai, Thane and Navi http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820. The Association is not an independent body but also a permanent member of Board of the Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to the MCA constitution, the organization is headed by a Managing Committee which comes to power for a two-year term after democratic elections
A tough battle is expected on 15th of July, since along with Vengsarkar, Sharad Pawar and the Union Rural Development Minister, Vilasrao http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deshmukh-c53820, will also contest the elections to hold reins of the association.
"We don`t know who we will be contesting against but we are not worried about them. We are confident of winning," said Vengsarkar who is currently shouldering his responsibilities as the Vice-President of the MCA.
The former cricketer is considered as one of the best batsmen the Indian soil has ever produced. The Maharashtra-born batsman served http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 116 Tests and 129 One Day International (ODIs). With over 10000 international runs under his belt, the 55-year-old
former stylish batsman has an average of 42.13 and 34.73 in Test and ODI cricket respectively.
Vengsarkar decided to go for the elections for the MCA presidency last month.
"I will be contesting the election this time and I don't want to comment anything more on this at the moment," stated the former cricketer at the time of announcement of his decision to contest election.
In the previous voting, the current International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharadchandra-Govindrao-Pawar-c89751, and his allies clean-swept the elections, winning all the 16 posts.
The MCA has huge role and importance in the national cricket. The cricket pundits within India are anticipating a tough clash ahead in the MCA elections since it will have far-reaching effects on Mumbai cricket.
