Dillon Gee goes through rehab process as he aims to appear again in the season - MLB Update
On Friday, the New York Mets' starting pitcher Dillon Gee underwent surgery in Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The doctors, using a catheter, broke the clot which was hindering the flow of blood circulation in his pitching arm. On Monday, the Doctors permitted him
to leave the hospital, with the instruction that he should refrain from throwing for at-least six weeks.
An emergence of an injury to Gee in the last week was a setback for the Mets, because their rotation already lacked quality hurlers. The fact Gee was among the few pitchers for the club that stepped up more often on the mound in the season, losing him was
never an option.
Therefore, his absence triggered debate about the possible replacements and how the club can eschew any negative impact.
This also gave way to discussions about a Major League debut to their prospect Matt Harvey due to the fact that a place on rotation was vacant. To this effect, a couple of weeks ago, Mets’ manager Terry Collins gave clear indications that they may call Harvey
in the season.
Meanwhile, Gee talks about his rehab process. He aims to appear again in the season, despite the fact that it does not look a possibility.
"Right now I feel good," Gee said. "My arm feels good. All the symptoms are gone. So that's a positive. It's been a long week for me. This thing kind of came out of the blue and hit me really fast.”
Interesting comments came from Gee about the start of his injury. He states that the arm numbness that he experienced before surgery has been causing trouble for him in the past but he clarifies that it has never taken such a dangerous shape before.
"I didn't really think much about it, because it always went away and I never felt it during games," Gee said. "So I never really said anything. And then, all of a sudden, this year I don't know if I finally just got one big clot in my shoulder."
By undergoing surgery, a bigger danger has been avoided by Gee now as doctors believe that if timely actions were not taken, the problem could have jeopardised his career.
Therefore, Gee can take comfort from this fact and can look forward to come back in the season soon.
