Dilshan backs Jayawardene’s appointment – Cricket News Update

more than a year.
"Twelve months is not enough to groom a young Sri Lanka cricket team and a new captain,” said Dilshan speaking to media reporters on Thursday. “My opinion is that Mahela should be there for at least two years and we as players are
willing to offer our support to him," he added further.
Jayawardene, who has been reappointed the national skipper earlier this week, had yesterday said that his second term as Sri Lanka captain will last no more than a year.
"I told the selectors that I will at the most remain the captain for a year, and we came to an agreement,” the veteran middle order batsman, who had captained the Islander from 2004 to 2009 said on Thursday. “It's a short-term decision.
We will work on grooming the team and a future captain as well," he added further.
However, Dilshan reckons 12 months are not enough to groom a new look side and wants the middle order batsman to keep the reigns for more than a year to make sure the Lankans are back to winning ways.
Dilshan was appointed as the Sri Lanka captain in May last year, following Kumar Sangakkara’s resignation from the role after the team lost the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. In his tenure, Dilshan failed to win a single One

Dilshan led the Lankans in 11 Tests since May 2011, losing five and winning only one and drawing the other five. During the same period, he led the side in 21 ODIs, of which his team won only eight and lost 13.
His own average with bat dipped in both the formats of the game as he averaged 33.60 in Tests and 20.95 in ODIs compared to his overall average of 40.89 and 34.68 respectively.
