I'm looing at getting a his and her matching nightstands for my bedroom and i only have 38 inches from my bed to the bathroom door. If i center the bed that leaves me 19 inches per nightstand to be able to fit 2. I was wondering when looking at the dimensions they give you online on how big the furniture is, do i go by length or width? Whats the difference between the 2?

  1. The dimension that is usually given is the length of the furniture (unless specified otherwise). Usually, the length is the measure or dimension of the furniture that is facing you and the width is how deep it is.

If you are facing the front of the furniture, the length is what you measure from left to right while the width is the dimension measured from the front of the furniture to the edge that touches the wall. Width measurement goes from front to back.
