With all the talent in the world that the Bulgarian ace striker Dimitar Berbatov possesses, he has consistently failed up to live up to the expectations. Berbatov was brought in by Sir Alex Ferguson to the coveted Manchester United rank of players after
a hefty payment of £30.75 million. He was signed on a four-year contract in September of the year 2008.
Berbatov’s three hat-tricks in the 2010/11 season have done little to earn him any positive feedback. He has been much talked about a move away from Old Trafford.
The striker seemed to fall out of Fergie’s preference towards the end of the season. He became the third choice striker and Javier Hernandez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson in the coming season
as well.
Even though the Bulgarian has shown glimpses of sheer brilliance, he has not found a role in Ferguson’s counter-attacking plans. He has been much criticised for his slumber during big matches and a similar style of play. Berbatov has not been happy about
his lack of action and has been touted for a move to Tottenham Hotspur for the 2011/12 season. He was seen warming the bench towards the end of Manchester United’s title winning campaign and did not feature in the important fixtures for his club.
His transfer value has been set at £15 million (half of his valuation in 2008) and is a cheap bargain for the talent his future employer will get. The 30-year-old may have passed his prime but the £15 million price tag surely makes him the most undervalued
player in the entire of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
Berbatov may be tagged as lazy but his movement upfront is exceptional. He may not have pace of Wayne Rooney or his style of play, but Berbatov has the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Skills-c40539 and mindset to showcase his intelligence on the field. He would find a position in the empty pockets
on the ground to provide an outlet to the midfield and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904. He moves along the frontline to create chances for his teammates, making him an outstanding lone striker. Back on the last line of the defence, he brings others in to play as well. He may be criticised
for his work rate, but time and time again he has shown himself to be a true team player.
His link-up depicts the class player he is. He may not be the most imposing striker the game has seen, but, his control of the ball is always a treat to the eyes. He has contributed greatly towards Manchester United’s possession rate of the ball.
His right-footed shot has often tested the opposition goalkeepers. Given the space and time, Berbatov has the ability to find the back of the net.
Given all his abilities, Berbatov has failed to live up to the expectations that Ferguson had when he signed the striker. His failure to score in big matches certainly does not help his cause either. But one can safely argue that he is one of the most technically
gifted players of the game in the world. His grace and style with the ball only complements this more. He has very few compatriots that also carry similar strong technical skills.
Berbatov has all what it takes to be a part of the first choice starting line-up of any top club in the world. For all his skills are worth, he should be commanding a price tag of £20 million or above at the least. All he needs to do is brush up his attitude
and the work rate. Clubs like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 and AC Milan will be more than happy to pick him up.
At a £15 million tag, Berbatov fails to meet the inflationary trends that otherwise rule the world of football today.
