The Manchester United striker is reportedly in talks with the Bundesliga outfit over a possible transfer to BayArena at the end of this season.
Manchester United striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254, has been linked with a return to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of this campaign.
Despite finishing the 2010/11 Premier League season as the joint highest goal-scorer alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez, the striker has found himself out of favour at Old Trafford since the start of the 2011/12 season.
Berbatov has managed only seven league appearances so far this season, and has slipped down in the pecking order at Old Trafford. The Bulgarian’s contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign,
and he could be on his way out of the club come the end of the season.
The striker’s agent has confirmed that Leverkusen are interested in his client’s services, but admitted that nothing is concrete as yet. Agent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivan-c17215 Dobrinov revealed that his client had a memorable time with the Werkself during
his first stint with the club and he will relish a return to BayArena.
While talking to Bild, the agent further mentioned:
"It's more than a rumour. Leverkusen have it on their minds to get Berbatov. There is contact, but nothing concrete yet. It all depends on United's plans. The player has never forgotten Leverkusen; the club is still very dear to
him. Furthermore, he has a good relationship with the leadership at Bayer."
Berbatov joined Leverkusen from CSKA Sofia in 2001, and went onto score 91 goals from 201 appearances. His impressive performances in the Bundesliga forced Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for him in 2006. The Bulgarian became
a huge hit in the Premier League, and after just two-year stay at the White Hart Lane, he moved to Manchester United for a hefty price-tag of 30.75 million pounds.
Despite enjoying decent success with the Red Devils during his three-year stay so far, the striker has fallen below http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233 in the pecking order of strikers at Old Trafford.
The Bulgarian was handed a rare start by Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson in the latest league game against Wigan Athletic, and the Bulgarian scored a hat-trick in his team’s 5-0 win.
