Manchester United forward and Bulgarian international, Dimitar Berbatov seems to be stuck in a rather sticky situation at Old Trafford. This is because, the player can’t seem to decide what he wants to do with his career and in the near future. The forward has been linked with a move away from the club and despite him realizing that, that might be the best possible option for him, he feels that he should see out the remainder of his contract with United.
Manchester United have apparently offered the player a new deal, which states that he can either accept a minor extension on his contract, or he can leave the club.
However, despite being treated like an old door mat at United, for the climax of the season, Berbatov seems to be all but determined to give his all to the Red Devils.
The player is quoted to have said: "I will fight for the 20th title. If I were an easy quitter, I would never have made it this far. Everything at Manchester United starts from scratch for me on July 4.
"There will be new finals and we will be fighting for new titles. I am moving ahead. When you go through difficult times, you should not quit."
However, despite stating his admiration and his drive to carry on for United, the player also went on to express his discomfort, about how he had been treated near the end of the season.
The Bulgarian international, then went on to add: "The truth is that I stayed at the dressing room and watched the Champions League final there, on a TV screen”
"I was really disappointed. I was ashamed that I was not part of the team and did not want people to see how sad I feel."
From the looks of things and the comments that the player is making, it is easy to see how Berbatov is caught between two minds. The player can’t decide if he should stick around, quite possibly win a trophy and be treated like yesterdays trash, or if he should move away from the club, be given ample field time and possibly win a trophy.
At the moment, the player is being linked with a possible move to either Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United.
However, despite that fact, there have been no clear indications from either team or the player that a move might be in the works. Nonetheless, there is more to follow on this Berbatov saga in the coming weeks.
