Dimitar Kutrovsky eases past Dutra Da Silva into 2nd round – L, G & T Tennis Challenger 2011
Qualifier Dimitar Kutrovsky from Bulgaira stunned number five seed Brazilian tennis pro Rogerio Dutra Da Silva 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday to advance into the second round of 2011 Levene, Gouldin & Thompson Challenger Series here in
Binghamton, New York.
Dimitar Kutrovsky looked in terrific form in his opening round match at the hard courts tournament as he required only 54 minutes dispatching the rival in his straight sets victory. Ranked 111th in the in the Association
of Tennis Professional’s rankings, Dutra Da Silva also had a great start to the match as he played his shots to perfection early on. But as the match progressed, he started to make unforced errors to let his opponent take control of things and complete his
victory in straight sets.
World number 542, Kutrovsky made a shaky start to the match as he struggled to get to his opponent’s ferocious forehand and backhand winners early in the opener. After the 23-year-old suffered a break of serve in the very game
of the match, he trailed 1-0 in the game score. Lifting his spirits, Kutrovsky regrouped himself and showed more determination. Breaking back in second game of the set, he levelled the game score at 1-1.
Raising the level of his game, the Bulgarian secured five straight games to claim the opening set a she dented his opponent’s confidence levels.
The second set also followed a similar pattern as Kutrovsky was able to get the better of his opponent in all departments of the game, whenever the two men competed for big points. His supreme on-court agility in addition to his
powerful ground strokes proved to be the decisive factor in deciding the outcome of the match. Breaking his opponent in seventh game of the set, he took 5-2 lead, requiring only a game to seal the contest. Da Silva fought hard but he failed to stop Kutrovsky
from earning a well deserved victory.
Hitting a decent 40 per cent first serve, Kutrovsky took control of points on his serve and then placed his gorgeous forehand and backhand shots down the line and cross court. Making the most of the available opportunities, he
converted four out of eight break points in the match. The Bulgarian will be looking to maintain his incredible form in his upcoming matches at the tournament as well.
Da Silva failed to handle the pressure as he struggled to create any break chances for himself in the match. He will be hoping to come back strongly on his next appearance.
