Dimitar Kutrovsky flashes past Luka Gregorc to reach the main draw – SAP Open 2012
Bulgarian rising star, Dimitar Kutrovsky, slew the Slovenian competitor, Luka Gregorc, with a bagel at the SAP Open 2012 on Monday. He clobbered a 6-2, 6-0 success against the world number 501 to enter the main draw at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, United States.
The 24-year-old barely sweated in the match to register a straight set victory against Gregorc at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event held on the hard courts. He not only earned a shot to bag $600,000 prize money but also confidently advanced into the main draw.
Kutrovsky entered the opening set with poise and quickly jumped to a 3-0 lead with a break of serve. He then held remaining serves without facing any barrier and capitalised on another break chance in the last game to pocket the opener with a 6-2 win.
438th ranked at the South African Airways ATP World Rankings, Kutrovsky went berserk in the following set. He swiped in entire serves without facing any obstacle and cashed in three out of five break opportunities to manipulate an assuring 6-0 victory.
Summing up the Bulgarian’s performance in this 57-minutes duel, Kutrovsky spilled fewer errors and produced a higher first serve share of 51 percent as opposed to his rival’s 43 percent. He also spectacularly clicked 15 out of 18 points on it and ended the match with 58 points.
The Bulgarian will next face the local star, Dennis Lajola, who downed the Indian challenger, Yuki Bhambri, in straight sets to enter the main draw. The American needed almost one and half hour to oust Bhambri in their first meeting. He lost his serve twice but broke the 19-year-old’s serve four times to pocket the match.
Qualifying fourth seed, Denis Kudla, will accompany Kutrovsky in the opening round. He got the best of Blake Strode in an all-American clash in two hours and 23-minutes.
The 19-year-old Kudla got the breakthrough in the last game of the final set, ultimately winning the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The lower ranked American stepped up his game in the following set. In spite of failing to capitalise on the only break opportunity he sought in the third game, Strode brushed off both breakpoints he faced and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. He prevailed in it and sealed the equaliser with a 7-6(7) win.
Kudla regained his strength in the final set and took the desiderated break in the third game, eventually bagging the decider with a 6-4 success.
