http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mascarenhas-c912 earns victory for Hampshire over Somerset
Hampshire overcame Somerset by seven wickets in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at The Rose Bowl, Southampton in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Wednesday, June 1st, 2011. Somerset scored 145 runs in their allotted 20 overs, but the hosts chased the target down
easily in the 19th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898, elected to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was good for batting and the weather conditions were also not in favour of the bowlers. Trescothick expected the match to be a high scoring one, but his batsmen
failed to post a huge target for the opposition.
The start to the visitors’ innings was not good, as they lost their skipper early. He had been in terrific form, scoring two consecutive centuries in the last County Championship game played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867. However, the stylish left-handed batsman was
unable to carry his form in the limited-over version.
Trescothick was dismissed after adding just two runs to the total off five deliveries. South Africa’s all-rounder, Roelof http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Merwe, was promoted as the first-drop to lift the run-rate. The move didn’t prove to be as much effective as the team wanted,
as the Proteas player was dismissed after scoring 15 runs from 11 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 was also unable to make an impression, as he got out cheaply for just two runs off five balls. Somerset were struggling at that stage with three wickets down for just 37 runs on the board.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 and Nick Compton steadied the ship for their team, scoring a 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Trego played aggressive cricket and didn’t get bothered by the fall of three quick wickets in the innings. The seasoned campaigner
top scored the Somerset innings with 55 runs off 37 deliveries. He smashed four fours and three towering sixes in his blazing knock.
Compton also did a decent job, but was unable to capitalise on the start he got to his innings, as he got out after scoring 37 runs from 39 balls. He would have liked to bat until the end and take the team’s score past 150, but failed to do so.
Dimitri Mascarenhas did a terrific job with the ball for the home team, taking three wickets for 19 runs in his four overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Adams-c1696. The pair put together 90 runs for the first wicket in 9.5 overs, taking the game away from the opposition.
Lumb got out after a quick fire 53 off 33 balls whereas Adams followed him after scoring 39 from 33. Hampshire’s first-drop, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Vince-c1657, batted nicely and ended up with 31 before he was sent back to the pavilion.
South Africa’s, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-McKenzie-c2094, remained unbeaten on 17 off 15 balls, guiding his side to victory in 18.3 overs.
Trego, who batted very well for the visitors, did a decent job with the ball as well, taking two wickets in the match. Dimitri Mascarenhas was named as player-of-the-match for his brilliant bowling.
