The Lille winger has taken a stock of his first year with the northerners and is hopeful to return to the France fold after a one-year Les Bleus hiatus
Arrived at Lille last season from AS Saint-Etienne for a fee of 9 million Euros, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marvin-Martin-c24496 for whom Lille paid Sochaux 10 million
euros this summer).
Many people expected the former Saint-Etienne man to lit alight Ligue 1. Last season, the player made 23 starts out of 33 Ligue 1 appearances and six goals. Even though many criticised the France international for being far too inconsistent, the debut season
cannot be deemed a failure.
While talking to L’Equipe, the Lille star believes that his first season at Villeneuve d’Ascq was not a failure at all. Payet says that he learned a lot of new things in his first season at the club.
Indeed, the player took some time in getting used to a new system. Fitting into a well-oiled unit such as Lille is not an easy http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 so it was always going to be a tough ask.
“That’s a year in which I experienced a lot, where I learned. I had to get used to a new system and do on the field what I was asked to do.”
And those who accuse him of being inconsistent, Payet says that it is not easy to get up and running within eight or nine months especially if you are not physically fit. However, Payet now says that he is feeling very good ahead of the new campaign and
is hopeful of a good season.
Motivated to give a good account of his talents, Payet is also keeping in mind a place in the French national team.
“Before you think about the France team, I should be performing for the club. The World Cup is far away. The team has a new coach and has the objective of qualifying from a group that’s not easy. Being part of that adventure would be a good thing.”
