Dimitrios Papadatos leads the Queensland Amateur Stroke Play Championship after second round
Dimitrios Papadatos has gained the second round lead in the Queensland Amateur Stroke Play Championship after his first and second round scores of 77 and 67. The second round of the tournament was delayed for sometime due to worsening weather situation and
resumed with Papadatos emerging as the leader at the Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club. The first round leaders Blake McGrory and Daniel McGraw are now trailing Papadatos by one shot.
Papadatos, the current Australian Foursomes Champion, finished off with an aggregate of even Par on the second day. He also made it into the quarterfinals of the 2011 NSW Amateur. McGrory, who had a better day in the first round with a one-under, 71, was
not able to perform equally good on the second day with a score of two-over, 74. McGraw, the other contender for second position, scored a 74-71.
Australian Boy’s Champion and favourite of the tournament, Cameron Smith also fared badly on the course with his score of four-over, 76. He is now six shots behind the lead with six-over. His opening round score was 74. Smith is also the Australian Amateur
Stroke Play Champion.
In the absence of top ranking amateur players on the Australian Amateur Circuit, the field is evenly poised to contend for the top slot. Matt Stieger and Ryan McCarthy are participating in the adjacent tournament at the South Australian Amateur Championship
in Adelaide, while McCarthy is still recovering from a skateboard injury.
The tournaments direct collision with the South Australian Amateur Championship in Adelaide has left both the tournaments with comparatively weak fields and has also reduced the interest of fans that otherwise throng the courses during Australian Amateur
Circuit Tournaments.
The third and fourth rounds of the tournament are also predicted to receive heavy rains and thunderstorms and things will get difficult for the players.
The cut of 56 players will be placed at 14-over Par or better. Top-16 from the tournament will be participating in the Queensland Men’s Amateur Championship, scheduled to be played at the Arundel Hills Golf Club, starting from May 3, 2011.
