Dimity Stoyle secures a spot in third round of Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro
The Australian surfer, Dimity Stoyle, grabbed the top honours in the sixth heat of Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro’s second round that was held at Praia do Guicho beach in Estoril, Portugal, on Friday, June 10th.
While the day was blessed with a sunny weather, the two-to-three foot tides, along with the offshore winds, ended up depriving the surfers of ideal conditions. As a result, the ladies were forced to mount their boards and commence their battle in a challenging
environment, where they not only had to worry about outperforming each other, but also exert a deal of effort to best the demanding surfing conditions.
Even though the going was tough during the 30-minute heat, Australia’s Stoyle still managed to hold her own in the sea and performed as well as she could under the given circumstances. After patiently waiting for a good wave, she eventually caught one decent
one halfway through the heat to score 4.60 points off it.
The score was not enough to allow her to relax and she kept on searching for a better wave. Her strong resolve eventually allowed her to catch a good wave in the final moments of the heat and execute a set of spectacular tricks to earn 8.25 points from the
judges and move up to a heat-total of 12.85 points. The score remained unbeatable through the course of the heat and eventually secured the first position. The result confirmed her place in the next round of the event.
Peruvian Anali Gomez seemed to have a difficult time coping with the conditions in the initial stages of the heat and only managed a 3.30-point wave halfway through the heat. However, an excellent second wave came just in time to take her to a two-wave total
of 11.35 points and put her in the safe zone. The runner-up finish also secured a spot for her in the round of 24.
Australia’s Felicity Palmateer missed out on second position by a deficit of 0.50 points. France’s Anne Cecile Le Talle rounded out the fourth position with 9.80 points. Both ladies are no longer in the run for the event title.
Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro is an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star event, fifth of seven events on 2011 ASP Women’s Star Tour.
