Dinah Gould becomes the oldest torch bearer at London 2012 Olympic Games
A 99-year-old woman has been named by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games to be one of the torchbearers for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
By the time it will be Dinah Gould’s turn to hold the torch, the Londoner would have turned 100.
By naming Gould as one of the holders of the Olympics torch, the LOCOG has chosen the oldest torchbearer for the London 2012 Games which are scheduled to begin on July 27.
The Olympic torch relay is scheduled to start from May 19 whereas the torch will land on the soil of the United Kingdom on May 18 as it arrives from Greece. The number of days that the Olympic torch relay will last is 70 and it will come to its end on the
opening day of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Gould expressed herself in the following manner after being named as one of the torchbearers of the London 2012 Games, “I am absolutely delighted and very honoured really. I never even thought about doing something like this so I am very very proud. Well
I am a chocoholic and good health is in my genes. My mother lived until she was 102. I take a class twice a week to encourage people to keep mobile and keep fit, I teach them to throw a ball and improve their co-ordination, and just to keep mobile.”
The torch relay will be covering the whole of the United Kingdom as it starts from Land’s End and will go on to Ireland as well before making its way to the Olympic Stadium. Up until this point, a total of 7,300 names of the torch bearers have been announced.
These torchbearers include people from every walk of life, celebrities as well as common citizens.
It will be the third time that the Olympic Games will be taking place in the city of London this time around. The first time the Olympics took place in the capital of England in 1908 while the second time the Olympic Games were hosted in the year 1948.
