Dinah Pfizenmaier cripples Ons Jabeur to reach round two – Ankara Cup 2012
German starlet, Dinah Pfizenmaier, devastated the Tunisian lucky loser, Ons Jabeur, with a breadstick at the Ankara Cup 2012 on Tuesday. She jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Tunisian teenager to progress into the round of 16 at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Ankara, Turkey.
Seeded third in this event, Pfizenmaier displayed awe-inspiring skills to record a straight set victory against the 18-year-old in their first meeting. After earning the fame in less than an hour, the German convincingly advanced into the second round at
this indoor hard court tournament taking place from 17th to 23rd December.
The German youngster stormed into the Ankara Tennis Club. She winded up the opening three games with two breaks of serve. Pfizenmaier lost her serve in the very next game but unleashed her skills again, eventually pulling out the opener with a breadstick.
She failed to block the lone breakpoint she came across but cashed four break chances to inch towards her goal.
Ranked 141st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Pfizenmaier maintained her intensity in the proceeding set. She availed an early break to jump to a 3-0 lead. Apart from losing her edge in the seventh game, the German broke
her rival’s serve again and clicked the set with a 6-2 win. She brushed off two out of three breakpoints she came across and converted two out of three break chances to her advantage.
Next up for Pfizenmaier is the Russian challenger, Margarita Gasparyan, who battled past her compatriot, Valeria Solovieva, in a three-set thriller to set up this meeting. The winning Russian picked up her game in the deciding set before closing out the
match with a 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-2 score line.
The seventh seed, Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia, triumphed over the Romanian challenger, Madalina Gojnea, in straight sets to enter the second round on Monday. She dominated in the second set tie-breaker to click the match with a 6-3, 7-6(1) success. The seeded
Serb dropped her serve twice but broke her rival’s serve three times to formulate this epic victory.
