Dinamo KAZAN defeats Azerrail BAKU – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A semi-final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women took place on February 22 in the Russian city of Kazan.
The contest featured the home side of Dinamo KAZAN who compete4d with the Azerrail BAKU.
After a clash that lasted for four thrilling sets, the home team was able to earn itself a win at the following final set scores: 22-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21.
The coach of the home team, Rishat Gilyazutdinov, shared his views about the performance of his squad at the press conference conducted after the match had ended in the following manner, “I am proud of my players because they showed a great attitude and
approach in this game even though it was difficult for us to stand the powerful attacks of Azerrail.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Azerrail squad, f**g Garayev, shared his views in the following words, “It was a tough match and our reception was poor, so we provided our opponents with a good chance to break away. However, this is not the end yet and
we will fight in Baku to qualify for the final four.”
The start of the first set of the game saw the BAKU squad take the lead and extend their advantage until later on in the frame at 20-16. However, the home team did not lose hope and managed to bring the score level at 20-20. Despite that fact, the BAKU team
did not let go of their dominance and got hold of the first set at 25-22.
The loss of the first set enabled the home team to rally together and put up a good show in the second set. As a result, the home team was able to tie the match by bagging the second set at 25-23.
After that point, the Russians did not back down and managed to secure the third as well as the fourth sets at 25-22 and 25-21 respectively.
The player who was able to earn the title of the top scorer was Ekaterina Gamova of Dinamo Kazan as she tallied a total of 26 points in the entire match.
