Dinamo KAZAN sweeps past BAKU into final four of 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A quarter final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women took place recently in the Azerbaijani city of Baku.
The two teams that competed each other to enter the final four of the tournament were the Russian squad of Dinamo KAZAN and the home team of Azerrail BAKU.
The match that followed between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as the guests were able to make a clean sweep over the Azeri team despite the fact that the Russians were playing with the raised odds of being in the home ground of their
rivals. Not only did the Russians win the match, they did so in a convincing manner as the scoreboard showed the final scores as 25-21, 25-23 and 25-11.
The coach of the Russian squad, Rishat Gilyazutdinov, shared his views on the match in the following manner at the press conference held after the end of the game, “Azerrail is the toughest opponent we faced this season. They played great today and I wish
them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
On the other hand, the coach of the losing team, Vugar Aliyev, expressed himself by giving the following comments on the performance of the winning team, “Our opponents saved energy for the golden set and I have nothing to say but to congratulate them.”
Despite the fact that they lost the match, the team which was able to produce the best scorer of that of BAKU. The home squad player Belarusian Aksana Kavalchuk was able to score the most and keep the pressure on his opponents by putting up 14 points for
his team.
The first set of the game saw both the teams come out strong against each other but eventually the guests were able to take the lead. Before long, the Russians had bagged the first set of the game at 25-21. The second set followed the same pattern as the
first won with the Russians securing another win. The Russians were able to completely smother the home team in the third set, winning it at 25-11.
