Dinamo Moscow thrashes Scavolini in straight sets to earn top slot in Pool E
The Druzhba Sports Hall in Russian Capital Moscow hosted a wonderful match on Tuesday night, when the home team Dinamo Moscow overpowered visiting Scavolini Pesaro of Italy.
The Russians posted 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-20) victory over Team Italia and finished the league round of 2012 CEV Champions League as top team in Pool E.
The home team was supported by some 2,000 local fans and exhibited great performance after slow start in the match. Nataliya Goncharova played an instrumental role in Russia’s victory. She topped all the scorers by contributing a match-high 19 points. Her
teammate, Angelina Grün, was equally active on the board and added 14 points.
The opening set of the match was a one-sided affair. The Italian squad kicked off the action and scored quick points via powerful serves and well-timed spikes. The home team, on the other hand, did not have the best start and suffered the early setback.
Visiting Scavolini jumped to lead of 7-2 at the first timeout, which was called by the home team. After the break, Russians put more effort to come out of the blues but could not succeed. Italy’s Klineman and Ortolani continued with their outstanding play
and led the scores 15-7 at the next mandatory stop.
As the action resumed, home team came up with a different attack strategy and also strengthened the defence. Meanwhile, the rowdy fans encouraged the team to catch up the opponent. As a result, the performance of Russian team saw improvement and the gap
of points decreased.
Scavolini asked for a timeout at 16-12 as Russia came close to them. Next up, the game saw the exchange of long rallies and some hot action on the court. Russian ladies put up a valiant effort and managed to take lead at 25-24. Dinamo Moscow truly came a
long way to beat Scavolini at 26-24 in the first set. Hence, the first set reached a dramatic end in the 28th minute as Russia claimed success.
After winning the first frame, Dinamo Moscow got its form back and dominated in the second set from start to end. Scavolini was actually in utter awe after losing the previous set and could not get out of the shock of defeat. Dinamo Moscow extended its lead
to 2-0 by closing second set at 25-18.
Italian team hit back aggressively in third set and kept the lead in hand until 17-16. However, Dinamo clawed its way back in the game and edged out the guest team with 25-20 defeat in the final set of the game.
Russia claimed third set in row and won the match. They finished the league round with an overall record of 4-2 and a total of 13 points, which helped them secure the top position in Pool E.
