Dinara Safina refutes Marat Safin’s claim about her retirement – Tennis News
Russian, Dinara Safina, disapproved any claims about her retirement from world of tennis and has clearly stated that she has not yet made any final decision and her comeback in tennis depends on the speed of recovery from her injury.
Safina’s brother, former world number one Marat Safin, earlier stated that she has taken the decision and she thinks that it is the end of a great era. She is doing relatively good with her health and is alright with mundane activities
but her chronic back injury has put an end to her professional career.
However, Safina denies her brother’s claim which has put an end to the long lived rumours that Safina has retired from the international tennis.
She said “I didn't make any official announcement. Give me please some time and I'll let you know”. This statement clearly shows her frustration at rumours that have encircled her retirement claim. She is just 25-years-old and
would definitely be looking forward to make a return into the tennis world soon after her injury heals.
Safina contested her last tournament in April this year and since then she has been out of action. The tournament in Madrid, Spain was her last tour and she was knocked out in the second round of the tournament against German Julia
Georges. She has been out of action ever since and her fans are eagerly waiting for her comeback soon.
In 2009, the Russian star climbed to the world number one spot with her consistent performance in every tournament coupled with 12 singles and 9 doubles WTA titles. However, surprisingly Safina has never won any Grand Slams or
an Olympic gold medal.
In August, Safina announced her unavailability for all tournaments in the remaining season. This was a major setback for her fans who were expecting her to make an exciting comeback in September as she had had enough time to recover
from her injury but Safin’s claims tore it into pieces.
She has been passing through a tough time and her last miserable exit from Australian Open at the hands of Kim Clijsters in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 must have shattered her confidence. But she is just 25 and there is no need to hurry
as she still has multiple years ahead of her to prove her worth.
