Sri Lanka’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 has hinted at drafting youngster Dinesh Chandimal in the playing eleven for the second Test of the three match series against South Africa in Durban on Monday, December 26, 2011.
According to the Sri Lankan skipper, “He [Chandimal] is one of the brightest prospects we have got. He has scored a couple of hundreds in ODI cricket. It will be a good test and experience for him to play against such an opposition and in such conditions.
Personally I feel good that we have been able to groom another young cricketer.”
The tourists struggled to perform in the opening match of the series and lost it by an innings and 81 runs in the end. Their batsmen were unable to cope up with the quality bowling attack of the opposition and got dismissed below 200 in both their outings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayan-Kaushal-Silva-c66641 managed only 0 and 17 in the match and might not be a part of the team in the upcoming encounter. His absence will give a chance to Chandimal to make an impression in the longest version of the game.
Other than Silva, the senior members of the Sri Lankan team also failed to make an impression on the green top Centurion pitch. However, Dilshan expects things to change in Durban.
The 35-year-old said, “There are still two days before the Test match and if we can have one net session, it will be good. History will remind Sri Lanka that eight years ago, when the heavens opened in Durban, it served them well. This time, they may not
get so lucky.”
He was referring to the match of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 in a rain affected match. The game was decided according to the Duckworth Lewis System and a miscalculation from the Proteas saw the opposition
end up on top.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 and his men will look to improve their record in Durban, which has not been a very lucky venue for the team. A win in the next Test will give the series to the hosts with a 2-0 lead.
