Ding Junhui aiming to hit 2012 World Snooker Championship crown: 2012 Welsh Open
China’s Ding Junhui claimed his first-ever Welsh title after ousting the World Number one and former Welsh Open champion, England’s Mark Selby easily by the score line of 9-6.
The Wuxi potter’s hard work finally paid him when he breezed into the 2012 Welsh Open final victory at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales. The former two-time UK Championship winner is now aiming to claim his first ever World Snooker Championship title
in the upcoming Crucible event.
The Star of the East potted some excellent snooker shots during the final clash against Selby and compiled impressive breaks of 64, 90, 51, 83, 124 and 130 along with some small ones to ensure his success.
Selby, on the other hand, showed the charisma of a strong opponent and pocketed some sensational knocks of 103, 124, 66, 73, 91 and 145 to fill his side.
After winning his first ranking event of the current season, Junhui’s goal now is to add a World Championship crown in his showcase of achievements. Last year in the 2011 World Snooker Championship, he managed to reach the semi-final stage of the tournament
but received a major blow at the hands of 2011 UK Championship winner, England’s Judd Trump by 17-15.
The Chinese Sensation spoke to the World Snooker in his post match interview, “I have a chance. Last year i got to the semi-finals so I have experience of the long matches. I was disappointed last year because I made one mistake on a break of 40 against
Judd Trump (when he led 15-14) which cost me the match. If I had got to the final I think I would have had a better chance than Judd to win.”
The 24-year-old added, “I will try very hard. I didn't have a good start to the season and coming here I felt I could lose in the first round. Now I will try to do well in every tournament.”
The World Number seven has bought a house in Sheffield, the home of World Snooker Championship, and will be practicing there. He told the fans that he will install a snooker table in his house for his practice even if he has to park his car outside home.
