Ding Junhui edges past Mark Allen in last 16 of the 2011 Welsh Open – Snooker news
Ding Junhui has beaten Mark Allen in the last 16 to reach the last 8 with a frame score of 4-3 in a best-of-seven frame match at 2011 Welsh Open.
The Chinese player was trailing Allen by a frame score of 3-1 before bouncing back to win 4-3.
Allen took the opening frame with a dominant break of 89 giving no chance to his opponent. Second frame was also taken by Allen after a long battle until the end making his lead 2-0.
The third frame fortunately went to Ding. Both players had their chance but some astonishing misses from them were seen. Ding had a lead of 32-1 when a frame winning chance to Allen was given but he only did enough to get a lead of 12 points before
bringing Ding back on the table once again. They were fighting on the coloured balls until Ding finally potted the pink to take his first frame 2-1.
Fourth frame was also a scrappy affair as some unbelievable shots were missed by both. They were going neck to neck all the way with the chances coming and going until Allen won it on the final black ball to lead once again by two frames 3-1. Now Allen
required only one frame to win, as it was a race to four. But Allen couldn’t secure a frame afterwards to reach the finish line.
In the fifth frame Ding did not give Allen much chance and with quick small breaks of 31 and 38 won it to trail by 3-2.
Allen was first among the balls in the sixth frame but he broke down after rolling in 38 points and gave a chance to his opponent who had his momentum back. Ding this time kept coming back to the table showed some terrific stuff. He opened up the reds
with a fabulous shot and made a classy break of 81 forcing the decider 3-3 and also shifting the pressure on Allen.
In the deciding frame after a few safety shots first chance for the frame fell to Ding, which was capitalised by the Masters champion again, and Allen was not given a chance to pot any balls. Ding opened up the cluster of reds and compiled a magnificent
79 in the seventh frame to seal to his victory by 4-3.
The overall score line was 0-89, 47-62, 84-76, 58-69, 70-15, 81-45, and 79-0.
Ding Junhui is now through to the quarter-final where he will face Ali Carter, who has also come up after beating the former world champion Peter Ebdon by 4-1.
