Ding Junhui sets up Mark Selby clash in second round of 2012 China Open
Winner of the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament from China, Ding Junhui will be meeting the World Number one from England, Mark Selby. The Junhui-Selby clash will definitely be thrilling game as both potters have played brilliantly in the past couple of
snooker tournaments and are currently on top of their performance.
Junhui has been a consistent performer in the current season with some noticeable wins during his season campaign. His start of the season was a bit low as he crashed out of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open at the hands of the event Champion Stuart Bingham.
However, after that he girded up some energy and bounced back into his current form.
He made his way into the final stages of many important minor ranking events including the Players Tour Championship (PTC), Premier League Snooker and Championship League Snooker. However, he was unable to make any progress in the major events as he received
many first-round exits. He hit the victory in the 2012 Welsh Open and added one major event in his account.
Selby, on the other hand, clinched a couple of main events including the 2011 Wuxi Classic, the 2011 Shanghai Masters and a couple of PTC events. After winning the Shanghai Masters, he progressed to the World Number one spot and has been able to maintain
it so far with remarkable appearances in the season.
He is looking strong to play against Junhui in the second round of the tournament and believes the game will be tough against the Chinese because he has played against him many times. The Englishman is aware of Junhui’s snooker skills and abilities.
Speaking to World Snooker about Junhui, Selby said, “It will be a tough game if I play Ding, we've played each other many times. I think he's probably one match better off than me, I think he's 8-7 in front. But I don't play now until Thursday night so hopefully
I can get some rest and sort myself out health-wise.”
Last time they met in the second round of PTC Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway where Selby defeated the Chinese Sensation by an easy score line of 4-1. Nevertheless, the snooker fans in China will definitely be looking forward for some
fireworks in the match-up between Junhui and Selby.
