Ding Junhui to face Mark Selby in second round of 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals – Snooker News
Winner of the 2012 Welsh Open, China’s Ding Junhui has set up a potential second round clash against the former World Snooker Championship runner up and the current World Number one, England’s Mark Selby in the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand
Final at Bailey Allen Hall in Galway, Ireland.
Both potters have been playing brilliantly from the very start of the season. Junhui was convincing during his run of the season and earned his spot in the PTC Order of Merit after his above average performance in the PTC events. He did reach the final of
PTC Event 2 but failed to score a single frame against England’s Judd Trump and lost 0-4.
However, despite losing to Trump in the final, Junhui managed to maintain his game and finally made it to the 22nd rank in the PTC Order of Merit to qualify for the Grand Finals.
Selby, on the other hand, had a noticeable start of the circuit with a marvellous title win in the 2011 Wuxi Classic against Ali Carter. During his season campaign, he was able to win the PTC Event 4 beating compatriot Mark Davis 4-0 in the final. He reached
the advance stages of a couple of other PTCs which saved his place in the Top eight PTC ranks.
The tournament is the final leg of the 12-event 2011-12 PTC series of the 2011-12 Snooker Season. The line-up of the Grand Final PTC event comprises of the potters who made it to the top 16 podium places of PTC Order of Merit after participating in the 12
PTC events.
The top eight cuemen which include the likes of Mark Selby, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Andrew Higginson, Michael Holt, Neil Robertson, Graeme Dott and Stephen Maguire are placed in the quarter-final stage where they will be meeting their respective qualifiers
of the initial round.
The competition is going to be one of the most thrilling encounters of the season as many big guns of the sport will be present at the arena. The Irish spectators will be looking for some fireworks during the tournament as it has the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan,
Judd Trump and John Higgins who are more entertaining at the baize.
