Dinko Jukic refuses to undergo FINA scheduled drug test- Swimming News
Austria’s Individual Medley (IM) and butterfly specialist, Dinko Jukic, has refused his scheduled anti-doping test organised by the international aquatics sport governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
A sports agency revealed that Jukic denied the doping test, saying that he is having health issues. The news was substantiated by the Swimming Federation of Austria, stressing that denial to the mandatory tests may result in the imposition of a ban on the
player.
The 22-year-old Dinko has made his country proud on various international stages, including the European Long Course Championships, World Short Course Championships and the European Short Curse Championships. He won two gold medals in the 400m Individual
Medley and the 200m butterfly through his international career, while his latest achievements were sighted in 2008, at the European and World Championships. Jukic won a bronze medal in the 400m IM at the World Championships and captured a silver medal in the
200m IM and the bronze medal in 200m butterfly at the European Long Course Championships.
Officials of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) requested Jukic to make himself available for the test before the commencement of his training session. The swimmer did arrive at the pool, explaining his current health conditions to the officials for
more than half an hour and entered the pool without giving any test.
Dinko started his training, whereas, the officials left the aquatic centre after waiting for quiet some time. By the time the Austrian swimmer ended his training, the officials were gone, but the 22-year-old said that he expected the agents to wait for him.
The officials left the swimming pool just 15 minutes before the conclusion of his training session, while the Secretary General to Austrian Swimming Federation, Thomas Gangel told the media that Dinko has the benefit of innocence, as he thought that the
test will be conducted after the training session.
In addition, NADA hesitated to comment on the issue for the moment, saying that a standard procedure will be followed before publicising a decision regarding the future of the Austrian athlete.
