I'm having a sort of a dinner party and need a menu that's easy and looks nice!! I know this makes it a litle more difficult to find recipes but it can't have any alchohol because a lot of the people coming are non-alchoholic or children!!!!!

Thanks!!1

  1. Grill a big London broil, bake some potatoes, make a salad----do it all ahead and the potatoes will stay warm for a long time---the meat you can gently microwave and then slice diagonally to serve---dress the salad and you're all set.

I like the appetizer bruschetta idea above with the toasted baguette slices, moz cheese and balsamic vinegar.

I serve wine whether everyone partakes or not---those who do will.

Creme brulee is a wonderful and easy dessert and can be done ahead the day before.  Bring out of the refrigerator to come up to room temp while everyone is eating dinner, then sugar the tops and broil.  Very festive with just a few raspberries on top.

  2. How about some pasta?  You could make a few different pasta dishes, serve them with a big Italian salad and crust bread.

For our rehearsal dinner (32 years ago) we had fettucini alfredo, pasta con brocolli with a cream sauce, and mostacolli with meat sauce and meatballs.  Something for every taste.  The salad had romaine and iceberg lettuce, artichoke hearts, pimento, and ropy provel cheese, with a sweet Italian dressing.  Provel is a mixture of provelone and mozzarella, very popular in St. Louis.  It's put through a grinder so you get ropes of it.

For dessert you could have those rolled up cookies called Pirouettes, and spumoni.  I love spumoni.

  3. Someone gave me the great idea for an appetizer. Slice fresh mozzarella cheese and put a roasted red pepper on top of it. After stacking a couple of these, drizzle balsalmic glaze on top of it. It is SO simple to make, looks fancy, and tastes GREAT!!!!

Balsalmic glaze can be found in super markets... it is balsalmic vinegar reduced with sugar. Its a super sweet vinegar with a thick texture

  4. Appetizer..

Shrimp Cocktail. Can be bought at store.

    Dinner.

Any pasta dish can be made to look great and taste great with a little effort. Again, you can buy this pre-cooked.

    Dessert.

Go for a bakery, eclairs, cake, creme brulee`, etc.

Have plenty of coffee, tea, soda and water on hand.

    Have fun.
