  1. Have you try having dinner in your room? At way you don't have to get dress and be in the bunch with other people.

  2. I only know about Carnival which if you can ask if there are any empty tables for 2 and ask to be assigned to that table. (If there is one available, it won't cost you extra - however, be aware "gold card holders" (past guests) and VIPs (suite guests and guests sailing 10 times with Carnival) get priority on things like this) Unfortunately you have to do this at the dining room, not at check-in because they assign tables to all guests when you make your reservations. However, many don't do the dining room dining and there are lots of empty places (on my last cruise, myself and girlfriend went once and were with another couple at a 8-seating table and our server said no one else had come all week). I like Norwegian Cruise Lines for dining with their Freestyle dining.

  3. Room service might be an option, if your ship offers it.  As I understand it, the only extra cost would be the tip.

  4. depends on the line, last time i went i could get a table for two for 50 bucks a night - well worth it, the food was so much better and the service was top notch.

  5. What cruise line are you on? Many cruise lines are starting to offer open-seating/ restaurant style/ or free style dining.  Some of the large mass-market ships such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean will not have this option.  Almost all of the ships now have specialty dining restaurants, but there is an additional fee ($15+ / person) to eat in these restaurants.  They also have a limited number of seats and some cruise lines will limit how many times you can eat there or require reservations.

Dining in your room is also an option, however, again the mass-market ships will often limit you to a room service menu and can't order off of the dining room menu.

    Hope this helps.
