  1. are you a d**e

  2. you didn't say what type of crusine you enjoy , however Melbourne is the place for good food of any ethic group. you can't go past Lygon Street for good Italian food and the atmosphere of the entire street is electric, any night of the week. there are some great places on south bank and Brunswick Street is funky with live music on weekends. A bit more up market? Go to the docklands there is a great seafood place there, forget the name. There's a great Indian place on the top end of Sydney Road. In the CBD you have Pelliginis a very old establishment right in the heart of the city, its famous for its homemade pastas and very good coffee, you also get the best coffee at Mario's in Brunswick St. Then there's St Kilda, Alcand St famous for its cakes and coffee and more good restaurants. The list is endless, if you can't decide ask a cabbie, they are always in the know.

  3. You didn't say what type of food you enjoy eating but I have a great expereince for you, my absolute favorite spot to go to when I first arrive in Melbourne.  (we travel there for business a lot)

You have to try Pellegrini's Espresso Bar.. This little place has a long bar that serves the only homemade Italian food in MElbourne.  And I mean, homemade.  There is only room for the cook and his wife and the daily offerings are written on a chalkboard over the bar.  Nearly everyday, it is spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, gnocci and raviolis.  Desserts are always varied and will be displayed the same.

The feeling you get is that you stopped into someone's grandma's house and they welcomed you to feast.  (prices very reasonable too)

Byt eh name, you will also surmise that this is the palce to get an authentic Italian espresso.. if you can handle it.

A lot of famous people stop in here.. We saw Julia Stiles last time. (although I don't think anyone else knew who she was.. we were the only Americans there I Think)

For mood music, anywhere on the river is nice.  Just stroll down the pedestrian walkway there and choose a place that's not too crowded.

Here is some info on Pellegrinis: photos and everything:
