Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka beats Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in Axiata Cup – Badminton news
Indonesia’s young and talented shuttler Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka proved his superiority in the arena when he defeated Malaysia’s experienced opponent Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in a team-event contest of Axiata Cup 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, March 25.
The World Number 23 Rumbaka, who is playing from Indonesian Rajawali, showed his elevated skills and overpowered Hafiz, who is representing Malaysian Tigers in the tournament.
Hafiz, who is currently ranked at number 32 in Men’s Singles world standings, could not live up to expectations and lost his fight in three games to his higher ranked Indonesian opponent who was in great touch.
In the opening game, Hafiz played with precision by dominating the pace of rallies. He employed his extensive experience and managed to dictate the pace of the game in the whole set.
On the other hand, Rumbaka could not play positive badminton in the first game and lost it with a 16-21 score on the board.
Nevertheless, the Indonesian changed his tactics and played aggressive game which helped him to dominate the pace of rallies.
Rumbaka was in full control of the game and managed to win the second set with a decent 21-18 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Hafiz became exhausted as he could not match the speed of his rival. On the other hand, Rumbaka remained on track in the whole set and bagged it with a tremendous margin of 21-10.
This Men’s Singles contest ended in three games with a 16-21, 21-18 and 21-10 score on the board.
After the match Hafiz said, “I wasn’t feeling well before the match and playing three days in a row is taking its toll on me.”
He further said, “I tried to go for a win in straight games but Rumbaka countered and attacked more in the second game and I just ran out of gas. Overall, I feel that I played better here compared to the Thomas Cup qualifying in Macau last month but I still
need to work on my physical strength.”
