Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka continues his sensational run at All England Open Premier Super Series 2012
Indonesia’s young shuttler Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka continued his winning streak as he defied all odds to penetrate into Men’s Singles quarter-final of All England Open Premier Super Series 2012, which is in progress at Birmingham, England.
In the pre-quarter-final clash, Rumbaka stunned the crowd as he thrashed his higher ranked opponent and sixth seed Sho Sasaki of Japan on Thursday, March 8.
The World Number 28 Rumbaka, who was underdog in the round-of-16 clash, delivered a gutsy performance and hammered Sasaki who has been positioned at number six in world standings at the moment.
The lower ranked Indonesian showed no respect to his Japanese rival and registered a remarkable win over him in straight games by consuming just 32 minutes in the court.
It was one of the best victories in the professional career of Rumbaka, who has reached in his first All England Open quarter-final by putting up a sensational show of flawless badminton.
In the opening game, Rumbaka played superb badminton and managed an early lead which was covered by Sasaki until 6-6.
Rumbaka changed his strategy and played with precision and managed to create pressure on his higher ranked opponent until the one-minute interval where he was in lead.
After the break, Rumbaka continued his positive and attacking play and did not spare any chance for Sasaki to fight back in the game.
The in-form Indonesian was quite focused in the game and managed to take the first set with a decent margin of 21-17.
In the second game, both players put up superb show by playing fast badminton until the one-minute interval.
However, after the one-minute break, it was again Rumbaka who displayed his impressive play and took a comfortable lead.
Rumbaka progressed with a great pace and bagged the second set in a striking fashion with a margin of 21-17.
The Indonesian emerged as the winner of this pre-quarter-final contest in straight games with a 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
In the quarter-final fight, Rumbaka will face the top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia who defeated Denmark’s Hans Kristian Vittinghus in the other round-of-16 match.
