Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka crushes Takuma Ueda in Men’s Singles quarter-final: Indonesia Open GP Gold
Indonesia’s spirited shuttler, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka powered his way into the Men’s Singles semi-final after playing incredible badminton against Japan’s Takuma Ueda in the quarter-final match of the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, in Kalimantan, Indonesia,
on September 30.
Rumbaka has been delivering good performances for the last eight months and is currently enjoying 27th position in the Men’s Singles world rankings. He is seeded at number 8 in the main draw of the Indonesia Open. The Indonesian shuttler took
two sets of 33 minutes to finish his job in the quarter-final battle against the Japanese, who failed to make his mark over his in-form opponent.
The start of the match was fabulous as Takuma competed well by maintaining the pace of the game quiet high. He executed perfect net shots, powerful pushes and accurate jumping smashes to remain close against Rumbaka who was playing with precision.
Until the interval, the Indonesian took control over the game from the Japanese and started to dictate terms in his own way. Until the break, Rumbaka was going ahead at 11-8.
In the second part of the set, Rumbaka injected more power and speed into his strokes and stretched the gap. Takuma could not respond to the attacking play of his Indonesian opponent, who finished the set by 21-14 margin in just 15 minutes.
It was the same story in the second game as both players progressed equally by remaining toe-to-toe in the first-half. The Indonesian executed a few wonderful cross-drop shots and disturbed the balance of his rival, which helped him in taking an 11-8 lead
until the 60-second break.
After the interval, Rumbaka remained ahead of the Japanese as he maintained his speed and showed no sign to slow it down at any stage of the match. His aggressive and positive approach earned him a win in the second set, as he ended it by a 21-16 margin
in 18 minutes.
The final result of this 33-minute two-set contest was 21-14 and 21-16.
In the semi-final showdown, Rumbaka will lock horns against his team-mate, Alamsyah Yunus, who defeated Malaysia’s Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun in the other quarter-final match.
