Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka expected to enter into national squad for SEA Games - Badminton news
After winning the Men’s Singles title at the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia is a strong candidate to be considered into the national squad for SEA Games (South East Asian Games). He tamed team-mate, Tommy Sugiarto in
the final of the event on Sunday, October 2.
World Number 27 ranked shuttler, Rumbaka has been struggling hard for the last six months and has lost his first round matches in four consecutive international tournaments. However, he finally got rid of his bad performances and clinched the title at the
home event.
In the 2010 edition of Indonesia Open GP Gold, Rumbaka lost the final battle to top seed, Taufik Hidayat. However, this time he proved his mettle and claimed the title by playing remarkable badminton.
The final between Rumbaka and Sugiarto ended in straight games with a 21-16 and 21-17 margin. The lower ranked Indonesian played flawless badminton with a wonderful flow and earned glory in front of his home crowd.
After the match, Rumbaka said, “I’m overjoyed with this victory, especially because I lost in the final here last year.”
While talking about his planning for the final match against Sugiarto, Rumbaka said that he wanted to remain focused in the game without thinking about the results.
He said, “When I entered the court, I just focused on the match. I didn’t think about winning or losing, but I knew I could beat him. I played a fast, attacking game and I managed to put more pressure on him.”
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) will be looking forward to consider Rumbaka as a potential contender for the next month’s SEA Games. The roaster about the squad for all categories of the game will be revealed today by the PBSI.
In the category of Men’s Singles, four shuttlers from Indonesia will participate in the games. Taufik and Simon Santoso are confirmed as they have higher rankings, while two other shuttlers will be selected from four expected players including Sugiarto,
Rumbaka, Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Shesar Hiren Rustavito.
Rumbaka is now in a strong position to capture a place in the national squad for SEA Games, especially when he has found his excellent form back.
