I'm a first year microbiology student and I saw the bacteria in my cheek smear (buccal smear). We just used a simple stain of crystal violet or methylene blue so I'm not sure if its gram postive or negative. I do know its really tiny, diplococci and very common but that's it... I've been trying to figure it out and am at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  1. if its any sort of cocci, it's probably positive. negative cocci are soooooo rare. i work in a hospital lab (and trust me we see everything) and we rarely ever see them.

the chances of you having something like that from a simple cheek swab are like .000001% and it would indicate you had some sort of serious disease.
