Question:

DirecTV - Banner, No Programming?

I'm having a recurring problem with my DirecTV HD box. I get a banner, but no programming. Resetting the box will get picture back, but only for a while. And then, after a while, even that doesn't help. DirecTV was already out once, insisted it was a wiring problem, not a hardware problem. So they rewired for three hours, everything worked. And two weeks later I'm back to banner, no programming. This time I'm demanding a new HD receiver. Any other suggestions? (I never had this problem until the new HD box and dish were stalled, FYI.) Oh, and just to make this all haunted and weird, our bedroom DVR -- not an HD, but an old Tivo unit that has worked perfectly for years, had the same banner, no programming problem this morning. I reset the box and it works find. But the coincidence is troubling.

  1. It could be a problem with your dish. My guess is that either the multi-switch is bad (going back to the tech's diagnosis of cabling problems) or that your dish needs realignment.

Have the tech come out again. The previous work is still under warranty if it's been less than 30 days and will cost you nothing. Plus, if the problem is determined to be the receiver, the cost is included with a service call (so, instead of paying for the initial visit and then $20 for a replacement receiver you only pay for the first visit).
