Question:

DirecTV and TiVO:?

I have DirecTV. I want to record my shows, but I don't want to get DirecTV with DVR, because that's like $100 for the machine in addition to a monthly fee I have to pay.

I want to get TiVO. It it just a piece of hardware I plug into my DirecTV receiver that allows me to record stuff and therefore won't have to pay any monthly charges?

  1. Hi! If you get a TiVo and have it installed, you'll still be charged monthly for the services. $4.99 for what you call a "mirroring fee", that is the fee for receiving the programs from your primary receiver, and $5.99 for the DVR/TiVo Service, which is what will operate your TiVo with your DirecTV service.

  2. yeah, a separate TiVo recorder costs a lot more in most cases - $200 for the machine and at least $9/mo for monthly service from what I've seen. I've heard lower prices for monthly fees, but I have yet to see it offered.
