Question:

DirecTV channels aren't working?

After a storm, some of my channels started to not work. Some channels work fine, but some channels like CNN, and Food network do not work unless the other box is set to a channel that does not work; the only message I get is that the signal s not working. It has been like this for months.

I called customer service, but they said I have to pay $75 to get it fixed. But, since I already pay for the service, I don't think I need to pay for something that doesn't work efficient like it says it does.

Help please, this is very annoying.

  1. Place a law suit on them

  2. Annoying as it is, it is DirecTV policy to charge for service calls UNLESS YOU HAVE THE PROTECTION PLAN.

Here's why: even if you're leasing the equipment, you own the dish and the cabling - it's your property and you are responsible for maintiaining it in order to get the service.

If you don't want to pay DirecTV for the service call, you can always have a technician of your own come out. There's a few downsides, though.

First, you don't get a price guarantee on the work the tech would do. With DirecTV, you know up front how much it's going to cost you. \

Second, did you know that the company pays $120 on average for the technicians to make service calls? That includes the time for the technician to be out there, any equipment he has to bring, any resources he has to use. Most people don't realize it, but everything adds up.

Third, if you have a service call done without DirecTV's authorization and the fix doesn't work, you're out the money and DirecTV will then charge you for the service call to correct the mistakes.

Try calling DirecTV for tech support again. Ask them for the Service Plus Protection Plan. That'll bring the cost of the visit down to $19.99 if you keep the Protection Plan for one year ($5.99 per month). In addition, if you need other service calls or even replacements of faulty equipment, you don't pay more than the $5.99 per month.

  3. If you hve the 2 dish setup it could be that either your dish is not alligned with the satelite or that one of your LNBs has gone bad.

Call and talk to someone else and ask them if its possible that the lnb was damaged in the storm  and how to test it . Then once it fails the test simply ask them to send you a replacement.
