We have DirecTV HD right now. Our TV supports 1080p format, but DirecTV only has 480i,480p,720p, and 1080i. Which resolution do you suggest I set my DirecTV HD to?

  1. I would try both 720p and 1080i.

Some people claim that any interlaced signal bothers their eyes, and some people claim that their tv's just don't show them as sharp as progressive signals.

Try both, watch them side by side and see which YOU like better.

  2. Broadcast HDTV is either 720p or 1080i.  All of DirecTV premium channels are 1080i.   Your set will convert that input to its native resolution 1080p.  You will never see any interlacing.  It is easier for the set to convert 1080i to 1080p than to convert 720p to 1080p, so in theory you should set your DirecTV receiver to 1080i.  That is what I have done.  However, I have to admit I've tried it both ways and cannot see a difference.

  3. 1080i
