It's DVR.

1) To record what you're watching: press the R button - it will pick up everything in the program from the beginning as long as it's been on the channel since it started up to 90 minutes back - even if the dvr was OFF.  (When you turn on the tv/dvr, you can use press the reverse button and see that it has the last 90 min's of the channel it's on.)

2) Use the Guide and find something to record - select the show and press R - the show will be set to record.
