Direct TV DVR is stuck on the Welcome. Powering Up. Screen. Can the recorded shows be transferred and saved?

I have a Direct TV DVR box that is about 4 years old. It has stuck itself on the welcome screen, can the recorded data be saved to a computer or DVD? Or should the entire thing be put in the garbage ;) ?

  1. Most likely the hard drive is dead. Even if you replace that you lose all of your recordings.

    we payed the pill, but its still stuck.
